City Conducts Seminar on Food Handling & Safety

San Carlos City thru the Negosyo Center (NC) in cooperation with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 6 and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) San Carlos conducted Proper Food Handling and Food Safety Seminar yesterday March 25.




At least 25 online food sellers and 7 distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) who are into food business participated in the event.

Engr. Allan Francis Dara-ug, Provincial Director of DOST 6 said that with the pandemic it is also timely for DOST to conduct such training and seminar not only for the micro entrepreneurs and distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) of San Carlos but also for all who are interested to become entrepreneurs.


Ma. Novah Sollesta, Special Operations Officer of Negosyo Center said that the activity is in line with the Food Safety Act of 2013 which promotes food hygiene or food safety among entrepreneurs to make their business successful.

She cited that although the city didn’t have food poisoning incidents in the past but it is still important to strengthen measures so that both the micro entrepreneurs and the consumers get to enjoy the product or food, safely.


Participants were also taught about packaging and food labeling that would make the product presentable. Said activity also reinforced the “No Plastic Policy” of the San Carlos-LGU where Wells Ruud Lego of DOST 6 gave alternative to use packaging paper instead of plastic as wrapping materials for the product.
