One in every five households own other land


1. In the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH), 5,322,024 households or 20.2 percent of the total 26,388,654 households reported that they own at least one land apart from the land that they own/occupy at the time of the census. (Figure 1)


2. Of the total 26.4 million households, 3.54 million (13.4%) were reported to own agricultural land/s. Households that owned other residential land/s totaled to 2.87 million (10.9%) while households that owned agricultural land/s acquired through the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP), as agrarian reform beneficiary reached 328,721 (1.3%). Only 53,718 households (0.2%) had members that owned other types of land/s. (Table 1)

Among the 17 administrative regions, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) had the highest proportion of households with at least one type of land they owned other than the land they occupy, with 47.7 percent or 209,470 households. It was followed by Region II - Cagayan Valley with 36.3 percent or 329,684 households, and the Region XII - SOCCSKSARGEN with 34.5 percent or 367,443 households. (Table 1)

4. The National Capital Region (NCR), on the other hand, had the lowest proportion of households with at least one type of land they owned other than the land they occupy with 8.2 percent or 287,297 households. (Table 1)

CALABARZON posts the biggest number of households that own residential land/s

5. Among the 17 administrative regions, Region IV-A - CALABARZON posted the highest number of households that own residential lands, with 328,708 households or 11.5 percent of the total 2.87 million households that own residential land/s nationwide. It was followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 263,533 households (9.2%) and Region VII - Central Visayas with 263,374 households (9.2%). (Table 2)

6. Region XIII - Caraga reported the least number of households that own residential lands with 96,589 households (3.4%) while Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) with 95,412 households (3.3%). (Table 2)


Number of households that own agricultural lands is highest in SOCCSKSARGEN

7. Region XII had the highest number of households that own agricultural lands with 286,684 households or 8.11 percent of the total number of households that own agricultural land nationwide. It was followed by Region II with 274,241 households (7.8%), Region VI with 272,042 households (7.7%), and Region VII with 270,368 households (7.6%). (Table 2)

8. Ownership of agricultural lands was least in the NCR with 66,386 households (1.9%). (Table 2)


Ownership of agricultural land/s acquired through CARP is most common in Western Visayas

9. Region VI – Western Visayas registered the highest number of households that own agricultural lands acquired through the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) with 49,125 households or 14.9 percent of the total number of households that own agricultural lands acquired through the CARP nationwide. It was followed by Region VII with 30,673 households (9.3%), and Region V – Bicol Region with 30,387 households (9.2%). (Table 2)

10. The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) posted the least number of households that owned agricultural land/s acquired through CARP with 5,635 households (1.7%). (Table 2)


NCR registers the biggest number of households that own other types of land

11. The number of households that own other types of land recorded the highest in the NCR with 7,368 households or 13.7 percent of the total number of households that own other types of land nationwide. Other lands include lands that are used for commercial, industrial, or recreational purposes. It was followed by CALABARZON with 6,539 households (12.2%), and Region III - Central Luzon with 5,711 households (10.6%). (Table 2)

12. CAR posted the smallest number of households that owned other types of land with 654 households (1.2%). (Table 2)




The statistics presented in this report were based on the information provided by the respondent or any responsible household member who may provide accurate answers to the questions and give correct information about the household. Moreover, the number of households in this report excludes households enumerated as homeless.

In the 2020 CPH, data on the land ownership were collected by asking the respondents, “Does any member of this household own the following?

  1. Other residential land/s;

  2. Agricultural land/s;

  3. Agricultural land/s acquired through Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program, as an agrarian reform beneficiary;

  4. Other land/s.
